Non-EEA citizens must have a valid student visa ("D" type visa) to study in Hungary. We highly recomment all applicants to study carefully the current legislation concerning the visa and the residence permit at the Hungarian Embassy or Consulate in their home country.
EEA citizens (European Economic Area = EU + Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein) do not need to hold a student visa to enter Hungary, but has to apply for a Registration Certificate before or after their arrival to Hungary.
Non-EEA citizens need to apply for the 'Residence Permit for the Purpose of Study' together with the visa application before arrival in Hungary.

EEA citizens have to register for a 'Registration Certificate for EEA Nationals' to have the right of residence exceeding 90 days.

All International Students have the obligation to notify the National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing (Immigration Office) of their arrival and visit their office to receive the issued Registration Certificate or Residence Permit card.
