Mint az alanti angol nyelvű levélből is kitűnik, a 2008-as év két szempontból is jelentős esztendő:

Intercultural Dialogue

Dear Colleagues

2008 promises to be an exciting year for languages, multilingualism and intercultural dialogue.

On 16 May, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 2008 as the International Year of Languages (in the effort to promote unity in diversity and global understanding).

In addition to the above, the European Parliament and Council have declared 2008 to be the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue.

The above provides a golden opportunity to promote our cause and call upon our leaders in politics, business and all other areas to focus on and resource the teaching and learning of languages, of multilingualism and intercultural dialogue.
