Job Description

Assistant or Associate Professor of Translation Studies specializing in translation theory, translation research methods, or interdisciplinary approaches to translation and translation pedagogy. Full-time tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor to begin August 2007. The successful candidate will support a translation studies program at the masters and doctoral level within the internationally recognized translation program (Institute for Applied Linguistics http://appling.kent.edu) of the Department of Modern and Classical Language Studies at Kent State University. A Ph.D. is required by the date of hire. Experience in the teaching and practice of translation of any language to or from English is required. Experience in empirical translation studies and cognitive science approaches to translation is especially desirable. For consideration at the Associate Professor rank, an appropriate publication record is expected. Potential to attract extramural funding is essential. Teaching duties include graduate courses in translation studies as part of the Masters and Doctoral programs in Translation at Kent State University. Assistant or Associate Professor of Translation Informatics specializing in translation informatics, the application of computer and information science methods to problems of translation and multilingual document management. Full-time tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor to begin August 2007. The successful candidate will support translation degree programs at the masters and doctoral level within the internationally recognized translation program (Institute for Applied Linguistics http://appling.kent.edu) of the Department of Modern and Classical Language Studies at Kent State University. A Ph.D. is required by the date of hire. Command of English is required, and proficiency in any other language is highly desirable. For consideration at the Associate Professor rank, an appropriate publication record is expected.The doctorate (discipline open), or combination of doctorate and relevant research experience should focus on areas of computational linguistics, information science or computer science relevant to one or more of the following research and teaching competencies: corpus analysis; document engineering and management; computational lexicography/terminology; translation technology; and markup languages and metadata as they relate to multilingual issues. Practical knowledge of application development, programming, markup languages, and related information technologies is assumed. Potential to attract extramural funding is essential.
