General Information
The European Health Insurance Card is needed for each episode of treatment. It must be submitted to the doctor treating you, or the patient's registration desk in hospitals or out-patient medical centres.
Students of EEA (European Economic Area) countries and Switzerland, Norway
Students coming from the European Union, Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein and Switzerland, who enjoy the health care of the national health service or mandatory health insurance scheme of their respective countries of residence, can receive the medical care which becomes necessary in Hungary:
Entitlement certificates
If one wants to get the treatment in the same conditions as Hungarians who are insured, one has to submit a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or the Provisional Replacement Certificate (PRC) to the health care provider.

Ambulance Costs & Hospital Treatment
In-patient and out-patient hospital treatment is usually provided based on a referral from a GP. There are some cases when a referral is not needed.
